IRD headquarters

concept

As part of an RFP process to provide new office premises for the IRD in Hamilton, Hallion Architects had to design a building that satisfied the IRD’s high requirements with the restrictive budgetary constraints of commercial office rents in Hamilton.

The solution had to be innovative. Elevating a 5,000 sqm floorplate above the facilities' car parking, using perimeter glazing and extensive roof lighting with daylight controls meant construction methodologies more usually associated with warehousing could be used.

All servicing was provided from the parking undercroft through a long-span raised floor system. This reduced loading and access requirements on the roof and enabled suspended ceilings to be eliminated. The stressed skin roof panelling reduced the steel required and provided high acoustic and thermal performance.
